Which Butt-Lifting Leggings Are Right for You?
Butt-lifting leggings have one main job: helping your natural shape stand out. Some styles deliver a subtle, barely-there lift, while others make the effect much more obvious.
At Glowmode, our designers create these looks with hidden elastic structures, visible scrunches, lifting bands and different fabrics. You don't need to memorize the technical details—just two things: the effect you want, and what you plan to do in the leggings.
This guide covers both.
1. What Are Butt Lifting Leggings?
Put simply, butt-lifting leggings use a scrunch, a lifting band or a few well-placed seams to make your glutes look more defined.
The effect isn't always an obvious scrunch. Some styles gather the fabric along the center-back seam for a bolder look. Others use hidden elastic that stretches and contours with your natural shape, so the outside stays smooth.
2. How Are Butt-Lifting Designs Different?
There are four main ways leggings create a lifted look.

| Type | What it looks like | What it does | Choose it if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visible scrunch | A gathered center-back seam | Ruching pulls the fabric inward for stronger definition | You like the classic scrunch-bum look |
| Invisible scrunch | Smooth back with no visible ruching | Hidden elastic stretches and contours with your shape | You want a natural-looking lift |
| Invisible scrunch plus lifting band | Smooth back with contouring underneath | Hidden elastic contours while the band lifts from below | You want more lift without visible ruching |
| Lifting band only | No scrunch down the center | Frames the lower curve of the glutes | You want shaping without any scrunch |
Visible Scrunch
Here, the ruching is part of the design. The fabric gathers along the center-back seam, pulling inward to make the separation between the glutes more obvious. Choose this if subtle isn't really your thing.
Invisible Scrunch
A hidden elastic structure gently stretches and contours with your natural shape. From the outside, the fabric stays smooth with no visible ruching. Go with this if you want a subtler, more natural-looking lift.
Invisible Scrunch With a Lifting Band
This combines two effects: hidden elastic contours around your natural shape, while a lifting band supports the glutes from below. The result is more sculpted than invisible scrunch alone, but the back still looks smooth rather than ruched.
Lifting Band Only
No center scrunch here. The band sits under the glutes and follows their curve from below.
One thing worth knowing: lifting bands don't look the same on every body. If you have a fuller lower-glute curve, the band has a clearer line to sit under and frame. If your shape is straighter or less full underneath, the effect will be softer. In that case, an invisible scrunch may give you gentler all-over contouring, while a visible scrunch creates more definition through the center. Neither option is better—they just work differently.

PeakBum Leggings
Best for: a subtle, natural-looking lift.
New to butt-lifting leggings? Start with PeakBum. A hidden elastic structure stretches and contours with your natural shape, giving you a smooth, flattering lift without an obvious ruched seam. It's easy to wear at the gym, in Pilates or as part of an everyday outfit.
The other thing PeakBum has going for it is fabric choice. You keep the same subtle lift and pick the pair that matches your workout.
PeakBum for high-impact workouts. Powersculpt™ is the supportive PeakBum. Its quick-drying, sweat-wicking fabric is built for speed and sweat, and the sculpted V-front and M-back add shape. If your week includes running or heavy training days, start here.

PeakBum for Pilates and yoga. FeatherFit™ is the softer PeakBum. It stretches easily, feels light on the body and still delivers the smooth contouring of PeakBum's hidden elastic structure. For low-impact sessions and all-day comfort, this is the one to reach for.

PeakBum for low-impact days and everyday wear. FeatherFit™-Air is the lightest PeakBum option. Keep it on hand for low-intensity days, travel or any time comfort matters more than compression. Choose the 24-inch fitted pair for a classic studio look, or the 31-inch flare for a longer, more dressed-up shape.

Want a more styled look? Try CloudBlend PeakBum. CloudBlend carries PeakBum's smooth, natural-looking contour into ruched-waist and flare shapes that work as part of an outfit—easy to wear straight from class.

PeakBum 2.0 Leggings
Best for: adjusting the waist-to-hip fit.
If your waist is noticeably smaller than your hips or glutes, standard waistbands can feel loose even when the rest of the leggings fit well. PeakBum 2.0 adds an adjustable drawcord, so you can bring the waist in without sizing down through the hips.
That extra adjustment fits a wider range of waist-to-hip ratios and keeps the waistband in place during training. The 28-inch Powersculpt™ StudioShape style is designed for high-impact movement, while PeakBum's hidden elastic structure keeps the contour smooth and subtle.

PeakBum Lift Leggings
Best for: extra sculpting without a visible scrunch.
PeakBum Lift works two ways. Hidden elastic gently stretches and contours around your natural shape, while a curved lifting band sits beneath the glutes to support and lift from below. The effect is more noticeable, but the back still looks smooth rather than ruched.
The FeatherFit™-Sculpt range comes in three shapes:
- 24'' fitted leggings with tummy control and side pockets
- 31'' flare leggings for a studio-to-street look,
- 4.3-inch shorts for warmer workouts. For medium-impact training
PeakBum Styles Compared
| Style | What's different | Choose it if | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| PeakBum | Hidden elastic contouring | You want a subtle lift and more fabric choices | Pilates to high-impact training, depending on fabric |
| PeakBum 2.0 | Hidden elastic plus adjustable waist | You need more freedom between the waist and hip fit | High-impact training |
| PeakBum Lift | Hidden elastic plus lifting band | You want more sculpting, tummy control and pockets | Medium-impact training |

Visible Scrunch Leggings
Best for: the boldest look.
Visible scrunch leggings gather the fabric along the center-back seam, so the ruching is part of the design rather than something to hide. The gathered seam pulls the fabric inward, making the separation between the glutes more obvious than any hidden-elastic style can.
Prefer your lift loud and clear? This is it.

Lifting Band Leggings
Best for: framing the lower glute curve without center ruching.
Lifting band styles shape from underneath instead of gathering fabric down the center. The band sits below the glutes and follows their natural curve, adding lift while keeping the back smooth.
Keep in mind that the band follows your natural lower-glute curve, so the effect may look softer on straighter or less full shapes.
Harry Potter x Glowmode
Best for: an aesthetic, low-impact studio look.
Want the lift with a little more personality? The Golden Snitch leggings use a concealed elastic structure for smooth contouring, then add rhinestone details on the outside. FeatherFit™ fabric keeps them soft enough for Pilates, yoga and everyday wear.

Butt Lifting Leggings FAQs
Should I Size Up?
Not automatically—scrunch construction doesn't change your size. Use the size chart, and pay attention to the fabric: Powersculpt™ feels firmer than FeatherFit™ even in the same size.
Which Design Creates the Most Natural Looking Lift?
PeakBum. Its elastic structure stays hidden, leaving a smooth finish and a subtler, natural-looking contour.
What Is the Difference Between PeakBum and PeakBum Lift?
PeakBum uses hidden elastic to contour with your natural shape. PeakBum Lift pairs that smooth contouring with a band that supports and lifts from below. Choose PeakBum for a subtler finish and more fabric choices; choose PeakBum Lift when you want extra sculpting, tummy control and pockets.
Are Butt Lifting Leggings Squat Proof?
Not automatically. "Butt lifting" describes the shape; "squat proof" describes the coverage—they're two different things. If squat proof leggings are your priority, check the individual product page for non-see-through claims, get the right size, do a quick squat test in bright light and wear nude seamless underwear under lighter colors.
Are Scrunch Butt Leggings Comfortable?
Yes, as long as the fit is right. Invisible scrunch styles use hidden elastic and stay smooth on the outside, while visible scrunch styles have a gathered center seam you may notice more. If a seam pulls or digs in, adjust the fit or check your size—discomfort shouldn't be the price of the lift.
What Underwear Should I Wear?
Seamless is the easiest answer. Pick a thong for the fewest lines, or a laser-cut brief if you want more coverage. With light-colored leggings, underwear close to your skin tone usually shows less than white.
